Blur and missed focus look similar, but they leave different fingerprints. Movement makes direction; wrong focus makes softness.

Quick diagnosis: Use more light, hold the camera steady, respect the minimum focusing distance and check what the autofocus sensor is actually measuring.
Camera shake and subject movement
In weak light the shutter can remain open longer. Hands move, people breathe and children rarely freeze. Use flash, brace the camera and press the shutter gently.
Too close to focus
Every Polaroid camera has a minimum distance. Moving too close makes the subject soft even if the background looks sharper. Use the correct close-up setting when the camera provides one.
Autofocus can choose the wrong object
- Glass can reflect sonar or infrared systems.
- A fence or branch in front of the subject may be measured first.
- Off-centre subjects can cause the centre area to focus behind them.
- Low-contrast scenes make visual focusing difficult on SLR cameras.
A clean test
Photograph a detailed flat subject in bright light, parallel to the camera, at a known safe distance. If the entire frame remains soft, inspect the lens, mirror and camera.
FAQ
Why are SX-70 photos blurry indoors?
SX-70 film needs much more light than 600 film, so the camera may use a slower shutter speed.
Can the rollers cause blur?
Rollers cause development marks, not optical blur.
Is every soft picture a broken camera?
No. Distance and movement are much more common causes.
Keep the evidence
Do not throw away a failed photograph immediately. Bring the camera, the remaining film pack and examples to Berlin Photo Studio in Wedding. A pattern across several frames often reveals whether the cause is light, distance, temperature, rollers, chemistry or the camera.
